Family rights activist John Murtari has expanded his public campaign asking Assemblyman Oaks for help. Not only has he moved his chalk messages from the sidewalk to the wall of the Wayne County Hall of Justice, Murtari's writing is much larger.
Murtari, founder of akidsright.org is best known for having a feeding tube for 123 days during a non-cooperation protest while incarcerated. He started this campaign in October.

The Transpartisan Alliance will soon launch a Transpartisan Citizens Pledge drive to help catalyze a Citizen Empowerment movement. Peter Block's definition and description of citizen is on point with what we have in mind. Think about your own ideas and expressions of "being an empowered citizen". Enjoy. Walt

He constantly asks for sympathy, takes risks , lies to you and when caught shows no remorse. It is unsettling, frightening. Somehow it is your own fault. But why would anyone do these things? There is an answer.
The terms, "psychopathy", "sociopath," "sociopath," and others refer to individuals…

GOP Mailer Raises Hackles Over Census Similarity
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP)

A survey and fundraising mailer from the Republican National Committee confused some Minnesota recipients with a label that marked it as "2010 Congressional District Census."
The mailings have been showing up this week in homes in Minnesota and other states. One ended up at the home of St. Paul City C…

Participating in our democracy is many things, from depressing to exhilarating. It is fascinating to study, observe and discern how to improve or transform our democracy (the parts that are toxic or breaking down). The Kettering Foundation has done some thinking on this. Happy to see that the Transpartisan Alliance innitiatives are in step with these 3 key understandings.…

Katrina vanden Heuvel seems to have a handle on the need for pro-democracy reforms and the conditions being right for a transpartisan uprising; "There is fertile ground on which to rally people in a transpartisan political reform movement." I'm keeping my eye on Katrina. Enjoy. Walt See it on my blog.

This NYT article sums it up nicely. Polarized politics on the Hill is nastier then ever. The article is worth reading and referencing as a good depiction of the current state of the political culture as expressed on Capitol Hill. Here is a blurb from the article:

Is it realistic to think that two groups such as MoveOn.org and Freedom Works, the lead catalyst and organizer of the Tea Party/9-12 movement could possibly find common ground? Given the institutional and financial pressures inherent in the two-party system it will be very difficult for these groups to actually work togther publicly, but recently two of their leaders met on a "transpartisan panel" at the Engaging the Other Conference. Their was a remarkably civil dialogue and all present were in…

REPOST BY MICHAEL OSTROLENK
November 20, 2009 - 6:47pm — Michael D. Ostrolenk
On Saturday the 14th of November (2009) I particpated in a very interesting conference in the San Fransico Bay Area. I joined Max Pappas from Freedom Works, Amanda Roman from Citizens in Charge, Joseph McCormick from the Transpartisan Alliance and Joan Blades from MoveOn and Moms Rising on a panel discussion about politics and policy. Unlike most panels, we attempted to delve into worldviews, perspectives and persona…

I have just returned from a fabulous conference, Encountering The Other. I left the conference feeling expanded in mind and heart… through my engagement with ‘the other’ – For me, this was the first time I have had a chance to engage in such a deep dialogue with individuals whose political ideology puts them ‘right of center.’ Over this weekend, I was able to develop a relationship with several such leaders. We met with an intention and purpose to listen to one another, to truly come to understa…

At the moment I am struggling to define American Political Conservatism. I believe it is a collection of these ideas:
o Preserve the US Constitution. It is not a “living document”. It is the “state of the art” in social order.
o The Constitution's preamble tells us the purpose of federal government.
o States rights means: Everything not covered in the US Constitution is the states’ responsibility.
o The Constitution does not deal with marriage of any kind. Neither should we.
o The Constitut…
